Cardiac tamponade: a case of kitchen floor thoracotomy.

چکیده
Successful thoracotomy in the prehospital environment is becoming more widely accepted. 2 Here we present the case of cardiac arrest secondary to penetrating chest injury and the successful prehospital thoracotomy that followed. The resuscitation was associated with the spontaneous return of motor activity and later, hospital discharge. The implication for the immediate need for anaesthesia and paralysis is discussed together with a description of the surgical technique.

Left Internal Mammary Artery Injury Requiring Resuscitative Thoracotomy: A Case Presentation and Review of the Literature
Background. Penetrating injuries to the chest and in particular to the heart that results in pericardial tamponade and cardiac arrest requires immediate resuscitative thoracotomy as the only lifesaving technique and should be performed without delay. Objective. To describe an external cardiac tamponade caused by massive tension hemothorax from penetrating injury of the left internal mammary art...

Cardiac rupture, particularly rupture of the left ventricular wall, has a very high mortality rate. In this occasion, even if injured patients being alive when carried to the hospital, many of them will die due to following possible reasons: severe bleeding, cardiac tamponade, wasting time for routine and usual diagnostic procedures or transferring the injured to other hospital equipped for car...
متن کاملSpontaneous rupture of a right atrial angiosarcoma and cardiac tamponade.
Primary cardiac angiosarcoma is a rare disease of difficult diagnosis and poor prognosis frequently associated with recurring hemopericardium. We report the case of a 30-year-old female with a right atrial angiosarcoma and spontaneous rupture to the pericardial cavity, who was diagnosed during an emergency exploratory thoracotomy, whose indication was cardiac tamponade. This is the 8th case rep...
متن کاملTechnical note: rapid, large-volume resuscitation at resuscitative thoracotomy by intra-cardiac catheterization
An emergency thoracotomy may be life-saving by achieving four goals: (i) releasing cardiac tamponade, (ii) controlling haemorrhage, (iii) allowing access for internal cardiac massage and (iv) clamping the descending aorta to isolate circulation to the upper torso in damage control surgery. We theorize that a new goal should be achieving rapid, large-volume fluid resuscitation and we describe a ...
متن کاملIncidence of clotted haemopericardium in traumatic cardiac arrest in 152 thoracotomy patients
Results After exclusion of 14 patients 152 patients met inclusion criteria. Of these cases, 61 (40.1%) had no pericardial tamponade, 79 (52.0%) had tamponade and 12 (7.9%) had no available data. Of the patients with confirmed pericardial tamponade, 39 (47.6%) had clotted blood within the pericardial sac. 12 patients (14.6%) it was positively confirmed as fluid blood only. 28 patients (34.1%) th...
